Racisim In The Church

At the end of April some members from Christ Image Church, along with myself, took a trip to Thomasville, Alabama with the Saints on a Mission ministry. This trip was not a vacation, although we had a great time. It was a trip to fellowship with other Christians and to help break down the walls of racism that are still solid in some places. Even in the body of Christ, the sick grip of fear and racism has a hold in some areas.

The trip was blessed from the very first moment. The drive down was full of laughter, prayer, story telling, and great fellowship with Christians from 5 different churches, Christ Image Church was represented by 12 people, including myself.

One of the big moments of the trip was when the Saints on a Mission bus pulled up to the first church we were visiting, Joshua Generations Church. This church was segregated until 2007. This was not on purpose, the senior pastor Johnny Harvell, pastor for 22 years, was given a mandate by God 18 years ago to break down the walls of racial separation in God's kingdom. It took many years and many tears to get to a point where someone of color attended a service at Joshua Generations. This was not because the pastor and the members were not wonderful people, they were and are. It is because of fear. Racial fear that has gripped this world for such a long time. People often fear that which is different than they are.

To be with people who saw our visit as a divine appointment was a heartfelt moment. Tears were shed and praises shouted. I beleive that all of us developed relationships that will not be forgotten. That service showed all who attended that God is not a God of race or ethnicity, but of love, grace, and mercy. We are so thankful that God is God and is not like any man. He does not judge based on the color of your skin, the country you were born in, or the language you speak. maybe if we all did the same, we could become closer to living our lives in the image of Christ.

Praying blessings in your life,
